Artist Commission - Building for Belonging
Overview:
We are looking for a young, early career Artist to join us for a new project, Building for Belonging, funded by Birmingham City Council's Next Generation Commissioning Fund. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young creative to work alongside professional artists working in a community youth arts setting whilst also creating their own piece of work in response to the project's processes and themes of home, belonging and the built environment.
The final commissioned work will be exhibited in the Building for Belonging exhibition in January 2019. The Artist will receive support and guidance from The GAP team as well as use of The GAP’s resources for the production of work, including space and equipment.
About the project:
Building for Belonging will engage young people aged 11 – 25 living in the Balsall Heath area to explore the concept of 'Home' through a range of creative media workshops. Examples include re-using waste materials to create architectural designs & models, creative urban walking and map-making of the local area, and designing a poster campaign on housing issues using collage and printmaking. The project will finish in January 2019 with a 4-week public exhibition of the work produced by the project participants and the commissioned Artist.
