(Project Postponed until further notice due to COVID-19 )
ME, HERE, NOW
Every Monday, 5 - 7pm from 6th April until 29th June
A new creative project for young people exploring identity, ‘self’ and representation through self-portraiture photography.
Me, Here, Now will see local young people explore their identities through photographic self-portraiture, asking the questions ‘who am I really?’ and ‘what does it mean to be me in these times and this place?’.
Through a series of creative activities we will explore ideas of ‘self’, ‘identity’ and ‘representation’, looking to examples of how people have used images to present themselves over time and across cultures, starting with the ‘selfie’. Participants will learn technical skills including Photoshop editing and using DSLR cameras whilst also having the chance to experiment with various photo-based art methods. Turning the cameras on themselves, each participant will then develop and create their own photographic self-portrait to be included in a public exhibition at The GAP throughout the summer holidays. The exhibition will act as a collective portrait of the young people of the area.
Open to 11 – 18 year olds living in or around Balsall Heath
Mondays, 5 – 7pm (Sessions run for 13 weeks, starting 6th April)
