Join us in our basement for the debut performance of ***MiCro-CuRationz,:B12, a sound performance piece by young composer Oliver Farrow. The performance takes place as part of the Building for Belonging exhibition opening.

~ 6pm Building for Belonging exhibition preview
~ 7pm MiCro-CuRationz performance (around 20mins)
~ Social & refreshments until 8pm

All material used in this performance is taken from the response of many different local people in the B12 postcode, whether it be field recordings taken in a betting shop on Ladypool Road, voice-mails from a grandmother in Poland or sounds from wild west sound tracks. Although many of these influences extend way beyond the borders of B12, they have a home right here in the hearts each individual that makes up Balsall Heath. The ensemble draws influence from western and middle-eastern folk, jazz, ambient and electronica, resulting in a warm expression of music.

The work was commissioned by The GAP as part of our recent project Building for Belonging, which engaged young Balsall Heath residents with creative explorations into Home, Place and Belonging. The performance forms part of an exhibition opening presenting the artistic work produced by participants of the project.

Oliver Farrow is a composer and producer seeking to explore the relationship between electronic music and other genres. He is often collaborating with other disciplines in the hope to reach a creative middle ground that allows something unique to occur.
